The mastaba of Nikauisesi is situated in the north-east sector of the necropolis of Saqqara, not far from the edge of the plateau, just to the north of the pyramid of Teti, the first pharaoh of 6th Dynasty.
The tomb occupies a prime site in the Teti Cemetery. The tomb of Hesi was discovered in the early s but remained unpublished. Although formed of a portico and one-roomed chapel, the walls are full of scenes and inscriptions executed in high quality relief, on a small scale to allow for the inclusion of a variety of themes on rather limited wall space.
